Summer Skin Care! Sun Safety Kit!

As the weather heats up and we spend more time outdoors, it is important to remember to take care of our skin. Every time we are outside, our skin is exposed to the sun's harmful and damaging rays - even on a cloudy day! A small amount of daily sun exposure adds up and that's why it is important to "practice safe sun" every day and not just when heading to the beach or planning outdoor activities. And when you are outside for an extended period of time, don't forget to reapply sunscreen every couple of hours, or as often as you can, especially if swimming or perspiring.

The easiest way to introduce a sunscreen or sunblock into your daily routine is with a moisturizer for the face and body. Finding a moisturizer that is lightweight and not too greasy can be a challenge for some. To find out if a product you are currently using contains sunscreen, read the label. If you don't see it, chances are the product contains very little or no protection. Sunscreens with broad-spectrum protection (against both UVA and UVB rays) and with a sun protection factor (SPF) value of 30 or higher are recommended. In most cases, you will find the SPF noted on the front of the product packaging.
