5 Essential Summer Fashion Pieces

With summer well on its way, I am so eager to see what trends will pop up on both the runway and in store-fronts. I love summer for its endless possibilities in materials, cuts, and colors. Textiles like linen, for instance, become ideal to wear for its comfort-factor during days of higher temperatures. I’m all about mixing and matching pieces and using every one of my clothing items to its full potential. All year long, I make the conscious effort to purchase pieces that are versatile and could be used to create different outfits for different occasions. This technique actually makes my wardrobe seem double its actual size.

I rounded up my essential pieces for the upcoming season. I spend a lot of my summer evenings dining out and spending time with friends and family. This year, I made sure to pick up pieces that would help build various looks so that I would always stay appropriate for whatever event I’d be attending. For me, it’s all about transitioning and taking your ensemble from “daytime-casual” to “evening-radiant.” Here’s what I’ve recently picked up:

Is Your Outfit Age Appropriate?

Alright, I confess! I will often find myself searching through my teenage daughter’s closet looking for something to wear. As I look through her colorful assortment of sleeveless tops and bodycon dresses, I am secretly hoping to find one that will fit me well!  Unfortunately, I usually leave her room disappointed. I'm finding that the younger, trendier styles are getting more and more difficult to pull off, and I ask myself if what I am wearing is age appropriate. I am not exactly saying I need to wear “grandma” clothes. After all, my mother is 77 years young and dresses very fashionably. The trick, however, is finding articles of clothing that will fit and flatter your figure. 

Recently I stumbled across a fantastic fashion apparel company whose sole purpose is to design fashionable clothing for women over 40. The company is Covered Perfectly and its president and founder, Pauline Durban, created Covered Perfectly after she discovered finding tops that made her feel attractive and confident was becoming a huge challenge. Sleeves were always too short and the length of the body wouldn't cover the tummy. Sound familiar?

I was lucky enough to get to try a top and skirt from Covered Perfectly! The Simple Comfort top I reviewed is seriously super soft and silky! It is made from a fabric I was completely unaware even existed, called MicroModal®! The fiber is unique in that it is made of European beechwood and is completely natural and breathable. Its quality and heavenly softness are even guaranteed! When I first felt the fabric, I had that "WOW" moment! I just love the way it feels against my skin and I want this top in every color! There are 13 colors in all!

The Covered Perfectly Pencil Skirt is a classic wardrobe staple all its own. It is lightweight and versatile enough to take me from day to night with little effort. Just like the Simple Comfort top, my skirt is a great foundation piece for my day-to-day wardrobe basics. Another plus...I found that even in temps close to 90 degrees in Cancun, the skirt and top both felt breathable and comfy!

Today I am featuring a jacket from prAna that has far surpassed my expectations! For starters, I am loving the super soft comfiness and warmth of the jacket's sherpa lining. Seriously soft, ladies! The diamond quilted fabric and attention to detail are impeccable!  The jacket is lightweight and perfectly weighted for autumn, spring, and mild winter days. I ordered my Diva Long Jacket in a size extra small, which fits perfectly! The arm length is about an inch longer than my arm, and when cuffed, creates a cute sherpa trim. I like a little extra length in the arms as it allows for some play and unrestricted movement. For sizing purposes, I am typically a size petite 4.

A Day at Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas!

Heading to Las Vegas for a get-a-way weekend with the girls? What? You weren't planning on it? Ooooh...I am! I have to get busy and make reservations right away. Why? Because I recently found out that Bruno Mars is performing at The Chelsea in Vegas! Just the thought of catching a glimpse of Bruno is enough to make me want to start packing my bags! {smile} 

Before I start packing, however, I have to plan what to wear around my activities. Wearing a pair of comfortable shoes is a must for walking the Strip and shopping. I'll also want some bling for nighttime.

Spring Has Sprung At eShakti {Review}
